  • Course #: 9632795 | Provider #: 0005092
  • Instructors: Kerstin Henze, Esq. and Alan Schwartzseid, Esq. BCS
  • Co-host for this session is Folio Association Management. We will be joined by Brad van Rooyen, President of Folio.

This condo board certification course satisfies the educational requirements of the new legislation which went into effect on July 1, 2024. The new legislation states that, “Condominium association board members must take a 4-hour board member certification course with certain subjects mandated within 90-days after being elected or appointed to the board.” This course fulfills this requirement.

Managers and board members will receive a comprehensive education of the statutory requirements and responsibilities that each volunteer must know to more effectively serve on the Board of Directors of a Condominium Association. Students will be able to demonstrate their familiarity with the responsibilities of being an effective Director for their Condominium Association including a better understanding of: (a) milestone inspection requirements; (b) structural integrity reserve study requirements; (c) elections; (d) record keeping; (e) financial literacy and transparency; (f) levying of fines; (g) notice and meeting requirements; (h) conflicts of interest; and (i) insurance requirements.

Before, During & After the Storm: A Board’s Operational Playbook | Webinar Panel

Hurricane preparedness involves much more than monitoring the forecast. Community association boards must be prepared to coordinate vendors, understand insurance implications, communicate with residents, and respond quickly once a storm passes. During this session, our panel will discuss:

  • What boards should be doing now before hurricane season begins
  • What the first 24–72 hours after a storm should look like operationally
  • Insurance considerations and documentation that can strengthen claims
  • Restoration priorities and how to prevent secondary damage
  • Legal authority and responsibilities boards have during emergency situations

If you serve on a community association board or work with associations, this session should provide practical guidance as hurricane season approaches.

Led by attorney Emily E. Gannon. Statutory changes and case law decisions greatly impact the interpretation, enforceability and legal effect of the governing documents of a community association. Antiquated documents can create liability exposure to the association and its members. Old provisions may hinder association operations, leaving community associations without the rights and remedies it needs to property govern the community. Learn about common pitfalls in older governing documents, specific provisions that are no longer legally enforceable and why updates are so crucial to successful association governance.
